1. Visions of Spring: Sheikh Zainuddin's Nature Paintings
Sheikh Zainuddin, a prominent artist during the East India Company period (1777–1782), gained recognition in British Raj by blending Mughal and Western painting techniques, contributing to the Company style of painting. He moved from Patna to Calcutta and became notable under European patronage. In the late 18th century, Zainuddin worked under Mary Impey, wife of Chief Justice Sir Elijah Impey, creating realistic sketches of birds and animals from her private menagerie. His art combined English botanical illustration with the Mughal Patna Qalam style, resulting in stunning sketches bursting with life and vitality.
